Rough Week

Greetings!

It was a pretty rough week for the Casanova family.  It started out last Thursday with Owen getting sick in the middle of the night, sweet potatoes everywhere, such a mess!  By Saturday, Owen had shared his stomach bug with mommy too.  Luckily, the worst of it only lasted about 24 hours.  On Monday, while Owen was standing and holding onto Elsie's horse, Buddy, he lost his grip, fell, and hit his head on the base of it.  He ended up with a big knot and bruise right in the middle of his forehead.

Tuesday morning, Owen's daycare provider called and said that she was sick with the flu (so that's where Owen got it!), so Sarah and I had to split the day staying home with Owen.  It's great to get one-on-one time with Owen, but we were both right in the middle big projects at work so it was inconvenient to say the least.

Wednesday started out great.  It was PJ day at preschool and Elsie was SO excited to show off her snowflake PJs.  It was the first cold day in awhile so I had to take a pick of Owen in his new stocking cap.

Elsie ready for PJ day.  Truman got to go too!
But PJ day didn't turn out so well.  About 11:00AM Sarah got a phone call from Mrs. Jennifer at preschool that said Elsie had a fever of 101.  So Sarah stayed home with Elsie during the afternoon.  Her fever went down, but not far enough for her to go back on Thursday, so she had to stay home again.  Sarah worked the morning shift and I stayed home with Elsie.  She was feeling pretty good, so it was fun.  After Elsie's enormous breakfast of waffle, banana, clementine, and cherrios we got cozy on the floor, made some hot chocolate, and watched Cinderella.  After the movie we played dollhouse until lunch, then it was my turn to go to work and Sarah's turn to stay home.
Much more fun when Owen can't eat the babies!

Thursday night, Owen was playing in the living room and as he was reaching for our coffee table he lost his grip (again) and slipped and hit his head on the leg of the table in the EXACT SAME PLACE as his accident earlier in the week.  He literally had a knot on top of a knot.  Bumps and bruises happen but we both felt sorry for the poor little guy.

Aside from some sniffly noses, everyone felt pretty good on Friday.  I thought I was going to get off easy, but then woke up on Saturday morning with a sore throat and stuffy nose.  It's not terrible but annoying just the same.

Owen has been getting faster and faster and he is "cruising" all over the place and pulling up on everything.  He's even stood unassisted for 5-10 seconds at a time but just hasn't tried to take those elusive first steps yet.  He's SO close though.  It should be any day now...

Here are some pics that don't involve anyone being sick.
Trixie thinking if she plays dead Owen might leave her alone.

Owen looking at me like, "Do you think I should?"

"All I wanted to do is pet her."

Grandpa Casanova got Elsie a bird house for her birthday.  We ended up putting it together on New Year's Day.  Elsie had a great time helping, and even though we probably won't get any birds until spring, we hung it anyway.

Someone got a haircut today.  Note: the sheet in the background is from a fort.  We did not intentionally set up a background for this photo.  :)

Here's to everyone getting well soon!

  1. We feel for you, we had the stomach bug pass through the house about 6 months ago. It's rough! Glad everyone is on the mend. We can't wait to see Owen walk!
