Dear Baby

Dear Baby,
I thought I’d take a few minutes to let you know what’s been going on the last 9 months and to give you a brief rundown of what you’re in for over the next few days…

We found out we were pregnant with you on the 5th of July, it was a Monday. The line was very faintly positive, but it was there. Within a few days later the line was darker, a few weeks after that we had our first OB appointment and saw your little heart beating away on the ultrasound machine. Your daddy and I were so happy and blessed to be expecting another member of our family.

The next few months, we had dr. appointments every 4 weeks. We spent much of our free time talking about you and discussing your arrival. We told your big sister Elsie about you right away but to be honest, she didn’t really seem interested (don’t worry, she’ll come around).

At 37 weeks we had a follow-up ultrasound to check and see how you’re been growing. Much to our surprise we found out they thought you were already 8 pounds and 9 ounces, give or take a pound or so! This means you would be at least 10 pounds by your due date! I attribute part of this to the Edy’s Carmel Delight Girl Scout cookie ice cream you’ve been making me buy every week at the grocery store. Since you’re growing so big, we talked to the doctor and decided it would be okay if you made your appearance a little early. You may have heard us talking about it the other day, you were there, but the words probably sounded a little muffled and mumbled from your perspective.

So Wednesday, March 9th, is the day, unless you surprise us before then which would be just fine too. We’re so anxious to meet you and find out who this person is that’s been growing inside of me for the past 9 months. We have your name all picked out, if you’re a boy, it's something that your daddy picked. If you’re a girl, it’s something that mommy picked out.

Your room is ready and waiting for you too. Your big sister Elsie goes in there daily and talks all about the baby’s room and inspects everything for you. She’s tested out your crib and has made sure your mattress is nice and springy by jumping up and down on it anytime she gets a chance. She loves to uncover my belly and hug my tummy while telling us “nice baby” and that she loves you and gives you kisses.

Today we got out some of your baby gear and got it all organized for you. Your daddy installed the infant car seat bases in the car and Elsie spent a good portion of the afternoon asking “What’s this?” about all of your things. She put her baby doll in your car seat, would cover it with a blanket, used a bottle to feed it milk, then would rock the car seat back and forth. We don’t know if she fully understands how our family is going to change after you get here, but one thing is for sure, she loves you already and will make a great big sister.

Your daddy is excited to meet you too, by nature he’s a planner and he’s been looking forward to this for a long time now. You are so lucky because he’s one of the best daddy’s around. Anytime you’re looking for fun, you’ll want to find your daddy, he’s always up for a good time. He throws a great dance party and loves his special pizza and movie date nights. When you come out, he’ll be the one with the huge smile on his face and waiting to give you lots of kisses and snuggles, you won‘t be able to miss him. I wonder if you’ll look like him?

As for me, I feel like I already know you pretty well, to an extent at least. You’re most active during the mid-mornings and in the mid-late evenings. And you’ve spent the better part of the last 3 months with your bottom pressed up against my belly button and your feet pressed against my right rib cage. When you move your legs, my belly moves like tidal waves and it makes me wonder what the heck is going on in there. When you first see me, I’ll likely look a little tired and will have tears in my eyes. Don’t worry though, they will be wonderful tears of joy. I can’t wait to meet you and to hold your precious self in my arms and kiss your forehead.

So enjoy the last few days inside your nice, warm, and cozy space. And don’t forget to rest up, you’re going to be seeing a lot of new faces and everyone is anxiously waiting to meet you. Until then, goodnight and we’ll see you soon.
Love,
Mommy
