April and May

This spring has been weird.  The weather over the last month has been cold, or rainy, or windy for pretty much the entire time.  We've found ourselves in winter coats and heavy clothes more than a few times.  But we have persevered and now school is almost out.  Next Wednesday is the last day of school for the kids and they are both excited.

For my birthday, we went to the Royals game.  It was cold, but it felt SO nice to get out and go someplace.

Mother's Day was nice.  We spent most of the day at Aunt Becky and Uncle Vince's house.  It was the first time all of us had been together since COVID.

Owen's baseball season started off pretty well.  The team struggled against the competition in the Golden Glove league, but Owen has played good.  He was hitting great at the beginning of the season.  I think every game was cold.  One night it was about 40 degrees and very windy.  BRR!

A few weeks ago we had a tournament.  On Friday night, Owen hit a deep ball that was inches from going over the fence.  In fact, it broke this sign!  The Bombers won both Friday games and everyone was feeling great.  Owen's friend Sebastian was staying with us all weekend too.

On Saturday, The Bolts were playing in a tournament.  It was a nice, sunny day.  They lost one and won one.

Owen and Bash were playing out behind the field and everything was going great, until...

Owen and Bash walked up and it took me a minute to realize something was wrong with him.  He thrown a ball in the batting cage and it ricocheted back into his cheek REALLY hard.  Bash said that it knocked him out for a minute!  It started swelling immediately and his nose was bleeding.  Freaking out, I took him to the nearest urgent care and put ice on it.

After an evening night at Children's Mercy, we thought he had a concussion, chipped teeth, broken nose, but thankfully not a broken cheek bone.  We kept ice on it and gave him lots of pain relievers.  We made follow up appointments later the next week with the dentist, ENT, and his pediatrician.

The worst part about the whole thing is that he couldn't play in the tournament on Sunday.  But, he was feeling ok enough to sit in the dugout with his buddies.  The purple sunglasses helped a ton.

The tournament was at 3&2 East, so we got to explore a little.  This is the biggest field there, like a minor league stadium.  I fake pitched to Owen and he hit a bomb off of me.

This is the sign he hit.  You can see the white zip tie doesn't match the others.  SO CLOSE!  If it hadn't been to dead center field it would have been out.

The Bombers played GREAT that day and advanced to the Championship Game.  They were worn out from such a long day and ended up losing, but 2nd place was great!

They got Elsie to help hand out medals.  Owen's coach, Chad, told the other team that they were lucky that Owen didn't play.

VERY COOL!

His friends all felt bad for him...especially Dylan.

This was mid-week, a few days later.  Definitely improving.  By the following weekend it was about gone.  All that was left was a little black above his eye.

Elsie had a couple of games that week.  Their team is really good this year.  They have 4 girls who hit for some serious power!

After sitting out a week and missing 5 games, Owe was able to get back at it.  Last weekend, we played in the Hawaiian Hitfest Tournament.  The team did great and won both game on Sat.  Owen drew a walk and got hit once.  Grandma Cas came up for the weekend too...

We drew the #1 seed after pool play concluded, but the forecast was for rain and all the game on Sunday were cancelled, which stinks, but we ended being the winner because of it.

Last week it was back to cold and wet, but at least we got the game in.

Elsie had a band concert.  They sounded great!

In Scouts, we did the recycled raingutter regatta.  Scouts made their boats out of recycling materials.

Owen's boat did great.  It was made from a tea bottle and the sail from a pack of almonds.

The May Pack Meeting was a fishing night.  It was cold and sprinkling, so nobody caught anything.

Owen did manage to catch a tree though.  His cast went up and over a branch. :)

We went out for dinner for our Anniversary.  It felt nice to get dressed up.

This is from April 20th.  One of the latest snows I can remember.  Hoping it gets nice and sunny without going straight to hot and humid...

See ya,
Ryan
