July

As COVID continues to be a huge annoyance, we have still found ways to enjoy summer.  We had to cancel our vacation to Maui.  That hurt!  But, we are keeping busy with some typical summer things.  Both kids are playing ball and we were able to celebrate the 4th of July in Boonville with Grandma Cas.
4th of July weekend started with a trip to Aunt Marilyn's and Uncle Donnie's pool.  Kids had lots of tricks to show...like flying!

...and walking on water!

We loaded up on fireworks.  Mostly smaller stuff we could do in the pasture.  One thing we can't get in Kansas is bottle rockets.  I don't know why they are so fun, but when I was a kid I must have shot off a million of them.  Owen isn't any different. :)

We had a very nice BBQ before our fireworks show.  The show was GREAT!  No pictures because it was mostly dark, but Owen did ALL the lighting and he did a very nice job.  He was really "feeling" it.  He had on a USA shirt, flag sunglasses, and flag socks.  AMERICA!

Owen had  a baseball tournament last weekend.  It started with 2 games on Friday night, which they split.  Saturday there were no game, so they had a team pool party.  Our whole family went and it was a lot of fun.  Elsie was there too, but only swam a little.  She took the video below though, which is great.
Somewhere, Owen learned to do back flips.  No idea where it came from?

Go BOMBERS!
The tournament was at the 3 and 2 complex in Lenexa.  It was the first time we'd been there.

Off to work!

We won one and lost one.  Finished 4th out of 12 teams, so not too bad!  Owen played really good.  He played left field mostly and made a really awesome play in the first game.  He backed up 3rd and when the throw went past, he got it and threw a kid off at home plate, just like Alex Gordon does!  For that and fielding his position really good, he got the game ball!  He also got a Salvy Splash from his teammate.  :)

Way to go, Owen!

Update: at our game last night, Owen finally connected and had a really hard hit.  He hit a triple!  It was a laser shot that went right to the fence and drove in 2 runs.  He played 3rd base all night and picked off a kid that was stealing.  For that, he got another game ball.  2 in 2 weeks.  Pretty proud of him!

Elsie has been playing really good too.  She plays 1B mostly, but some 2B.  In the last few games she's gotten good hits, made plays at first, and even caught a fly ball or two.  Her base running is really good too.  She's just a good, all-around, player.

Owen and I have been sitting out in the outfield for the last few games.  It gets really crowded behind the field because there are 4 fields and they all come together.  They've taped off the bleachers too, because of covid.  Plus, it's hot, so we've been trying to find some shade.

It's not a bad view from out there.  It's nice and quiet and you can just concentrate on the game.

Here we are in the bed of my truck.  Great view.
Camp Invention happened a few weeks ago too.  As always, the kiddos really enjoyed it, even though they had to wear masks most of the time.  They made sports facilities, robots, airplanes and more...

The kids took their bb guns over to the Cox's house a few weeks ago.  Both of them shot really good.  Wish we could shoot these at the house, but we don't have a good place for it.

Owen got a hoverboard and he is really proud of it.  He wanted it so bad that he paid for it with his own money.

What's Millie been up to?  Same 'ole, same 'ole.

Maybe the future is bright?  Hoping there is a school year...and football. :)
See ya,
Ryan
