The Casanova Family: Start of Summer

The start of summer has been interesting. Sarah and I are still working from home, but summer camps are open, so the kids have been going to Y-Camp during the day. Owen really likes it because he has two friends there. Elsie, not so much, but she's tolerating it. They both would rather be home, but we just don't have a lot of choice. Having the kids home with us all day with nothing to do would be a huge distraction and we are both pretty busy with work. We are trying to mix it up a little though by doing some different summer camps and time with the Grandparents. The pools are open and baseball and softball have started so from that aspect, things seem fairly normal.

Let's start where we left off, which was with the kids in Boonville spending the week with Grandma Cas..

On Friday, I took off at noon and drove down to Boonville. We went mini golfing at Midway. It was one of the first warm days, whcn the sun feels good but before it gets nasty and humid.

We grilled steaks and shrimp and had a nice evening playing outside sitting on the deck.

The long bike rides have gotten the kids into great shape. They were racing the golf cart up the pasture. Then they would run back down and see how fast they could run using the gps on Elsie's watch. Can't believe how much energy they had!

Saturday morning we had a big breakfast and then went out for a bike ride. This time we headed toward New Franklin. They had never ridden across the bridge. It was a nice ride. After lunch we headed back to KC.

A few weeks ago, we took the Garmin Survey boats out to Hillsdale Lake for some testing. This was the first time I got to see the operation. It was pretty neat.

Baseball and softball are back! I promise Elsie is playing too, but don't have any pictures (she thinks they jinx her). Both teams moved up a level this year so times are tough. Owen's team has won 2 games. Elsie's team is still looking for a win. The kids have been playing good.

A few weeks ago, we loaded up the family and headed over to Kill Creek Park again. This time was different though. Mommy took her paddleboard instead so she could do that while we rode. Also, they added on to the south section of the trail so we were on a mission to explore to the end.

We found it! This restored barn is the end of the trail. Pretty neat and some fun hills to get there.

When we got back, Mommy (that's her behind the kids) took the hot kiddos for a ride on the paddleboard.

What a fun morning!

One of the ways we mixed up the camp schedule for Elsie was by sending her to an art camp. It was in the afternoons for a week. She LOVED IT! The first day they did water colors and she painted this picture. So cute and colorful!

They made a mug out of clay one day, and the candle that goes in it another day.

She also made this pillow. What a fun week!

And then there's this guy with his morning hair...

We got our house painted a few weeks ago. It is a little more gray than tan now. One afternoon an army of 9 guys descended on our house and went to work. They taped everything off, prepped and painted the entire house in 6 hours!

Last weekend we went blueberry picking. Mmmm!

For Girl Scouts, they had a virtual cupcake making contest. Elsie made these almost entirely on her own and they turned out great! They tasted good too. She won first place! WAY TO GO ELSIE!

Father's Day happened too! We didn't do a whole bunch. We went to the pool in the morning and I smoked a brisket. It was just a nice day hanging out with the family.
