School's Out!

School is over and summer has officially started.  We are celebrating Memorial Day by taking it easy and enjoying the long weekend.  There has been so much going on it's hard to pick a place to start with the pictures.

Let's start with Mother's Day!  Sarah decided she wanted to go bowling, which was fine with the rest of us.  We had a nice afternoon and some yummy nachos.

Baseball is fully underway.  Owen has been playing great and his team is doing really well.  They almost beat the best two teams in the league in back-to-back games.  Owen has been hitting great, but his fielding has been impressive too.  The other day he caught a fly ball and stopped a hard hit grounder at 3rd base and threw the kid out at 2nd.

Field Day happened last week.  I took the morning off to help with Owen's grade.  It was fun!

Softball has been going great too.  Elsie's team hasn't lost a game yet (they've tied 2 or 3).  Elsie has been hitting well.  At the double header the other night she batted 8 times and got on base and scored 7 of those times.  She played a mean first base too!

At our Pack Meeting last week, the boys in my den earned their Wolf Badges and blue neckerchiefs.  Congratulations to all of them for all their hard work this year!

Yesterday, the Scouts cleaned up the Spring Hill Cemetery and put flags on Veteran's graves for Memorial Day.  Elsie came to help too. :)

Last weekend was Garmin Day at Worlds of Fun.  Always a great tradition for our family.  The weather was perfect for walking around the park.  A little cool for the water rides, but we saved them for last...which was good because I got SOAKED!

First ride of the day was Spinning Dragons.  The kids were brave.  We rode the Detonater next.  Owen and I rode the Mamba twice, Timberwolf twice, and Cyclone Sams (which just about made me sick).  Owen is finding that the big coasters aren't scary.  They are fun!  Elsie would have ridden more, but she hurt her writes.  More on that later.

Elsie's favorite ride!

A few weeks ago Elsie and Sarah completed the Girls on the Run 5k.  Congratulations to both of them for all their hard work!

Sarah got herself a present...

...an inflatable paddle board!

The weather has been either rainy or windy, so she's only gotten to take it out once.  Her and Elsie puttered around Heritage Park Lake a few weeks ago.

Construction on the school and road continue.  Our back yard looks a lot different!

Owen and I have been throwing around the football a lot.  Here we were practicing getting both toes down AND possession of the ball.  Looks like a TD to me!

A few weeks ago the weather was finally nice enough for our first fire pit of the year.

The kids decided to have a camp out in the back yard with our next door neighbor Maryanne.

A little more than a week ago, we got a phone call that Elsie had tripped and fallen at school.  She landed on her wrist and it was hurting.  Sarah took her to the doctor and x-rays said there was a small fracture.  Luckily, she gets a splint instead of a hard cast, but no softball for 3-4 weeks.  Since then, all of her games have been rained out and she hasn't' missed anything.

Yesterday, we got out our bikes and explored the new road that goes behind our house.

We rode all the way up to the end, where it meets up with Lindenwood at a little park.

Elsie went too (she was careful about her wrist)

It was supposed to rain all day but we lucked out.  We put out flags at the cemetery, went to the batting cage, rode bikes, played tennis, and even got to break in the pool.  IT WAS FREEZING!

Here's to the start of summer!
