4th of July

This year we decided to celebrate the 4th of July by staying home, grilling burgers and hot dogs, and lighting off our own fireworks.  Our back yard is pretty private so we figured as long as we didn't get anything too big or too loud we'd be fine.  So we headed out on Friday morning and loaded up on sparklers, smoke bombs, fountains, strobes, snap pops, roman candles, snakes, tanks, and even a pooping dog!  :)

The kids couldn't wait for it to get dark, so they kept busy by going through 3 or 4 boxes of snap pops and some snakes.  Then we grilled and ate dinner outside.  The weather couldn't have been better.  And finally it was dark enough to light off the fun stuff.

A pleasant surprise.  We were able to watch the Olathe fireworks display from atop our swing set.  Best of both worlds!

On Saturday our neighborhood had a kids bike parade with an American theme.  Kids were to decorate their bikes and then ride a short ways to the pool and playground where donuts and juice awaited.  It was fun, the kids enjoyed helping get their bikes decorated and we got to play at the park for a little bit afterwards.

Teeter totter + Starbucks = Just a typical day in the suburbs  :)

Sarah's garden has been producing nicely.  The carrots are one of Elsie's favorites.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July!

Ryan, Sarah, Elsie, and Owen
