Taiwan

Last week I got to take a business trip with a couple of colleagues to Taipei, Taiwan.  It was my first trip out of the country, so I was pretty excited about it.  We left KCI on Friday night around 7:30PM bound for LAX where we caught our international flight.  Around 1:30AM (LA time) we boarded a Boeing 777 and took off on the 13hr flight to Taipei.  The flight was LONG but we made it and arrived in Taipei around 6AM on Sunday.  We checked in to the hotel and then headed out to see some of the city.

Chiang Kai Shek Memorial

Subway station

The subway was surprisingly easy to use and we rode it all around downtown.

Taipei 101 is the 2nd tallest building on the planet

Inside of Taipei 101 (we didn't go to the top because the lines were REALLY long).

Rush hour in Taipei

Scooters EVERYWHERE!  They zip in and out of traffic and have no fear.

The beautiful lobby at T3 - one of the two Garmin facilities we visited.

I am normally a very picky eater, but I tried everything put in front of me on this trip and I'm so glad I did.  Most of it was really, really good!
Sushi!

Two of the guys from Garmin Taiwan took us downtown to a night market.  It was insane!  They sold everything from seafood to luggage to snakes.  They wouldn't let you take pictures, but there was a shop where you could eat snakes.

Chicken parts

Duck tongue

Eels

More Eels!

Squid

Shrimp the size of a small squirrel

We worked Mon-Thurs and left on Thursday evening.  The flight back was 12hrs to LA, then another 3hrsto KC.  I ended up getting home around 2AM on Friday morning.  It was a great trip!  We got a lot of work done and had a great time touring the city, but I was happy to be home.  I missed my wife and kids SO much!
