I never imagined what a run we'd have with sickness in our family this winter. I mean, we didn't really even have a true "winter" and we just can't seem to catch a break. Sure, we're in the middle of what our pediatrician has referred to as the "perfect storm". Owen is sprouting molars so he chews and spreads his germs on everything. Elsie is somewhat better, but really, at 3, handwashing is not the most fun activity and why would you want to stop playing to go get a kleenex when you can use a perfectly good sleeve. Add to that the fact that they go to different day care/preschools so they're exposed to twice as many kids. Kids that chew on everything and use their sleeves too. The past 7 weeks in our house have been challenging to say the least. Here's a rundown of everything we've battled since Jan. 6th.
- 2 bouts of stomach flu
- combined total of 13 cold viruses (at least. We've totally lost track of who gave what to who and who hasn't had what yet)
- 2 sinus infections
- 1 ear infection
- 1 bronchitis
- one unexplained low grade fever for 3 weeks
- 6 rounds of antibiotics
- one round of eye drops
Elsie is feeling pretty good for now, Ryan and I are both over the hump for the latest virus. However, Owen woke up this morning with a temp of 101.8 degrees, and so the cycle repeats itself. Generally we're sick for 7-10 days, better for 3-4 then catch the next thing going around the house.
Sorry, this isn't the bright and cheery post you're used to. Truth is, I'm frustrated. We're doing all the right things, fluids, rest, washing hands, sanitizing the house, etc. I called the dr. last week for the sole purpose of her promising me that it wouldn't last forever. She assured me that little ones can have up to 10 or 12 viruses per cold/flu season and that yes, it will get better. We are blessed, none of this is anything serious and we're all healthy enough to fight off everything that has been thrown our way so far. That said, I'm pretty much over it and ready for spring, or summer, or to put everyone in a bubble for a few weeks to break the cycle.
Thinking healthy thoughts,
Sarah
Holy Moly! That sounds NOT FUN! I think I WOULD be looking for a plastic bubble. Makes me very thankful Livia stays in our house on a daily basis!
